Future Olympians

The inspiration for this should be obvious. I was watching the bicycle races over the weekend and as they rode by the tables with water, someone would hold out a bottle and the rider would grab one as the went by. When they had a drink or two, they would then throw the bottle off to the side on the ground. That was enough to remind me of the way kids seem to think they can handle trash. So, if that is the skill set for becoming an Olympian, there are a lot of youngsters that might make it.

What Would Tom Landry Do?

I heard someone tell a joke the other day involving cowboys and decided it might also apply to the Dallas Cowboys. It also awakened other ideas for political correctness that will probably show up in future CoVs.

Unexpected Outsourcing

I was thinking about an 'outsourcing over the phone' CoV on my commute, but did not know I would decide to make it on a personal level. Once I sat down and designed my panels, I knew that Mr. Blue's wife would outsource him. Then, I needed my final panel twist and decided to make the reason be a cool accent from some other country. Finally, since my wife always liked Captain Picard, I threw in his accent and famous quote as the ending.

To the Moon, Alice

I had this one all designed before I started creating the comic, but it didn't really flow once I wrote it. So, I had to tweak the last two panels to find a new twist for the end. The basic idea of doubting the landing was real was retained, but the Reagan comment moved from the end into panel 3 and the Lincoln reference was added for the unexpected conclusion.

I'm Sorry, Dear

My wife did feel sorry for me after a bad day at the office. After she offered to fix me a good meal, she decided I should do a CoV about it. I have to agree that it is a good concept.

Carpe Diem

I was listening to the radio yesterday and heard the phrase "Carpe Diem." My mind instantly translated the Latin into English. "Seize the Day." This then led to other English words that sounded the same, which led to what type of business could use that title, which led to this. I then went back and researched some Latin phrases that could be used as sales signs on each business. Finally, I had to come up with an explanation-type comment in the final panel.

Rock Still Rolls

Yesterday, my wife said, "They don't write songs like that anymore" about something on the radio. That got me to thinking about a way to compare songs. So, I Googled top songs of 2012 to find something new and chose Nicki Minaj. The rest of the comic just fell out from top songs of different decades.

Racebook

Our county sheriff is making news again as he tries to reopen the Obama Birther issue. So, that made me remember an idea I had about using homonyms of Facebook as topics for the comic. This one could have also worked for a horse racing theme, but Sheriff Joe is more timely.

Defense Funding Option

Unbelievably, I came up with this idea on the commute, but have no idea where it started. Did I see a logo and think of it as a personal name? I don't think I saw a military uniform or aircraft any time in the last day or so. Oh wait. I did hear something about the USPS losing more money. So, I thought about corporate sponsorship, but I needed the structure of the military to make the responses work better. Whew. I am glad we figured that out.

Ninja Cut-off

Yes, we are going through a re-org at work right now. How did you know? How will they choose which projects should continue? Hopefully with a more accurate measure than which ones are cut by a ninja sword.

Password Possibilities

Apparently, I have to change my password in 9 days. And we do have all those rules about what must make up a password and how often the same password can be repeated. So, I have my set of characters and letters that make up my password, including those numbers that I increase sequentially. Don't you?

Signs a Change is Coming

While I had all week off, I only thought about a new comic last night when I noticed the air bag warning note on the car dashboard. So, I wondered why we don't have air bags anywhere an abrupt change could happen?

Now You See Him

It has been a while since we last saw Ninja P.M. The challenge would be that he might change or hide documents in the middle of an audit, so how can we measure his adherence to the standards? I suspect this audit is not over.

Build Your Own Sports-Themed Comic

Can you believe that the Phoenix Suns traded Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers? See, that just shows how easy it is to build you own comic using my amazing template. Feel free to complete the remaining fields as appropriate for your situation. But seriously, can you believe the Suns gave such a weapon to Kobe and the gang? So, why isn't the comic about that? Well, not everyone keeps track of the NBA, and even fewer would really follow the Suns and even fewer would care.

Fortune and Teller, Color Commentators

I had originally thought of having several scenes in this comic, but it took a couple of panels to develop the story, so I left it with a single "miracle." Then, as I was naming it, I decided to have the broadcasting team called Fortune and Teller. So, this opens up some future fortunes and things like crystal balls, etc.

Cookie Fortune

We had Chinese food yesterday for lunch and the meal ended with everyone opening their fortune cookie and reading them. This clever remark came from my nephew and I knew it had to be immortalized (or is it denigrated) by using it in a CoV comic.
